Mpongwe Mission Hospital in Zambia.
Mpongwe Mission Hospital in Zambia.

CARE works long-term to strengthen pediatric healthcare in low- and middle-income countries through knowledge exchange, education and nursing interventions. In 2025, we conducted a project together with Mpongwe Mission Hospital in Zambia and Sachsska Children's and Youth Hospital in Sweden.

The project has aimed to create sustainable collaboration between healthcare professionals, analyze risks and identify nursing measures that can contribute to improved care and quality of life for children and young people in Mpongwe.

In the project, CARE has worked on, among other things:

  • knowledge exchange between hospitals

  • analysis of nursing routines and areas for improvement

  • CPR training efforts

  • a clear children's rights perspective, with the child's safety and right to care in focus

The project also became an important basis for being able to carry out an on-site visit to Zambia , where the collaboration was deepened and more interventions could be implemented together with local healthcare personnel. Once on site, it became clear how small, concrete interventions – in close collaboration with local healthcare teams – can contribute to long-term improvements and mutual learning, both in Zambia and in Sweden.
